Troubleshooting

Fetch logs over FTP

Copy the logs, the self-test report and crash reports from the Switch over Wi-Fi.

Source scripts/switch-ftp.sh, docs/LOADER_UI.md
On this page

sphaira’s FTP server gives access to the SD card, the Album and the crash reports over Wi-Fi.

  1. Open sphaira and turn on its FTP server. It is anonymous, on port 5000 by default.
  2. Note the address it shows, for example 192.168.1.20:5000. The computer must be on the same network.
  3. Leave the Switch in sphaira: the server stops while the loader or a game runs.

With the script

From a checkout of the rpynx repo:

bash
scripts/switch-ftp.sh 192.168.1.20:5000 logs

This fetches the loader and runtime logs and the self-test report into build/test/switch-logs/. A missing file is reported, not fatal.

Fetch one file, by its path from the SD card’s root:

bash
scripts/switch-ftp.sh 192.168.1.20:5000 get switch/renpy-loader/logs/the-question/traceback.txt

With curl

The script is a thin wrapper around curl, so any FTP client works:

bash
curl -s ftp://192.168.1.20:5000/switch/renpy-loader/logs/loader.log -o loader.log

List the crash reports:

bash
curl -s ftp://192.168.1.20:5000/atmosphere/crash_reports/

Search the logs

Every line starts with the date and time, then the message. The loader’s UI lines have ui right after the time:

bash
grep ' ui ' build/test/switch-logs/loader.log

tip

The Switch’s clock and your computer’s may differ by a few minutes. Match log lines by their content, not only by time.
