Virtual cursor
Some games need a mouse. The right stick moves a cursor, and pressing the right stick clicks.
- The cursor stays hidden until the stick moves, and hides again when you press a button.
- It speeds up while the stick is held. Speed, acceleration and the deadzone are in Controller settings.
- The arrow is drawn by rpynx (
runtime/renpy/make_cursor.py): black with a white outline and rounded, anti-aliased corners, in the style of Bibata Modern Classic but drawn from scratch, because Bibata is GPL-3.0. Its hotspot is the black tip. - Switch SDL draws no cursor of its own, so the runtime draws it as a Ren’Py displayable.
In runs 16 and 18, the D-pad, A and the cursor picked buttons in games on a Switch.
Touch
In handheld mode, tapping the screen works as a mouse click at that point, mapped through the letterbox when the game’s aspect ratio differs from the screen. After a touch, no cursor is shown.
warning
Touch has no hardware result yet (tests H7 and H29). “No cursor after touch” is tested on the desktop only.
Known limitation
The cursor can stay visible during D-pad play until Ren’Py’s own mouse-hide timeout (30 s).
